Dungeons and Dragons Party by warp-zero Dungeons and Dragons Party by warp-zero
Sorry for not posting any new art for so long. But here's one I just finished.

Yet more proof that my nerd factor is indeed very high. I haven't really played D&D in a very long time. Sure, I've done drawings of other people's characters ... but played? No, not in a long time. Well, until recently. Old friend of mine started up a D&D game with a couple friends and asked if I would like to join as well. Hell yes I would! Anyways, we've been playing off and on for a quite a while now. I figure it was about time I actually drew a group picture.

So here it is. The way I drew the characters are based off how they were described to me by each player at the table. There is one exception though, that being the 2nd guy from the left. My friend Kurtis who is also an artist drew and designed his own character. He's the skinny goth looking pale Elf with red chains. His character is quite funny and sort of a parody of other "dark emo heroes" from other fantasy stories. Just explaining if you're kinda wondering why his design is "out there" compared to the rest of the characters. I basically looked at his drawing and did my own version based off his costume design.

So which one is my character? Well, I didn't want to be the dork who put his character in the front ..... so he's the Dwarf sitting down in the background. Originally, all the characters were sort of equally close to the camera .... but it looked kinda boring and typical of most group shots. So I made the composition with characters and various distances from camera. Downside of this is you can't see the full costume of some of the characters. But I'm a big fan of making group shots look like a movie poster or a photo shoot for a new fragrance line.

Hopefully, this will be the last drawing I color up using a mouse....click, click, click, click......
I'll be getting a Cintiq soon and should open my coloring horizons to new areas. I hope.

Is the Paladin back there holding a yoyo?

It's suppose to be his holy symbol. He wears it around his neck like a medallion. In the pic, he has it off his neck and is holding it in his hand.

But you know what? It actually being a yoyo is way better idea. :D

Tips?

D&D is fun. Keep it light, keep it fun. Go through adventures you and your friend like to experience. Don't make it competitive. Just keep it fun.

Do you listen to Podcasts? Check out a show on iTunes called "Fear the Boot". They have good tips and topics. :)

Well done. Out of your gallery, I find this picture particularly interesting because your use of completely different coloring schemes shows the differences between the members of the group.

Ha ha ha. Thanks.

Really though...the party may "look" bad-ass, but they really aren't. Our bard has bad hand-eye coordination, our cleric is frail, and our sorcerer is a dwarf. What more can I say? They're quite the odd bunch of adventurers.

This is pretty cool. I like how you managed the camera feel to it like you described. It does add some depth to the picture like it was one of those "spur of the moment" pictures taken. Fantastic work

I'll do an actual photo shoot for a new fragrance line only if you model for me. C'mon.....your hair alone will sell millions. I'll call the fragrance: "Dusty's Golden Waterfall" ...uh...in reference to your long hair...of course.......right......moving on now...........

na. I meant pixelated, but it must have been my connection or somt'n. I reloaded it at home and it looked much clearer! That game was VERY brutal. Much more realistic. A knife wound can be fatal after all. But makes you think twice about actually getting in a fight. hehe. I've never braved GenCon. Many years at comic cons, but one Wizards of the Coast battle-con was enough to make me wary. The stuff looks great! But for god's sake, get a wacom at least. (unless the cintiq is just around the corner...then you have my complete and bitter envy, sir!)

sweeeet, Tim. I can't count how many group shots I've done over the hours and hours of D&D (and later Warhammer RPG) I used to play. Kept me out of suicide! Haha. The elf costume actually fits in fine with the style of the piece. Is the resolution a bit low? Looks rough on my monitor. Hmm. D&D fragrance line? I've smelt it, man! It's a scent that lingers (especially after about the 17th hour).

Rough? You mean over all or just like the line art? If you mean just the line art...well, its because it is really rough pencil sketchy line. And the scan was just so-so. But the coloring should be clean. Hmmm....have you tried looking at it on another computer? I'll look at it with one of the computers at work and see too.

Yeah, good to hear from another fellow gamer. You played Warhammer? Heh heh...that game was brutal. But about the fragrance...its easily manufactured because all you have to do is go to GenCon and open a bottle and let it capture the "essence".
