Some old art I found while unpacking. A few years ago, the guys at work were talking about getting back into D&D or something. We'd sit around and talk about how fun it was to do geeky stuff like D&D. Someone suggested we should start playing again. I told everyone that we could also try other settings too. Not just fantasy. After a bit, everyone seemed excited to give the Star Wars RPG a try. I asked, "okay...what timeline you guys wanna play in?" Everyone agreed that after "Return of the Jedi" would be fun. Since the story of what happened before Episode 4 was already being told ... we thought to explore post-Episode 6.
GM duties ended in my lap and a couple of weeks before our first play session, I decided to do a promo-poster that would be e-mailed to the players. Y'know ... get'em hyped a bit for the upcoming campaign. This piece was the promo-art.
I wanted to get across that it was the whole "after the fall of the Empire" thing. So thus, I composed the art around the fallen Star Destroyer and Stormtrooper helmet in foreground. The player-characters are tiny on the horizon. Abstract archetypes because...I really didn't know what kind of characters the guys were going to make.
Funny tid bit: some years later....the artists at ILM release (thru Dark Horse I believe) a comic book that featured short stories drawn by the "actual artists" who worked on the film. One of the pin up pieces in there featured a fallen wrecked Star Destroyer much in the same way as I did in my art. Wow....coincidence - guess we were both thinking of the same gimmick. But I thought I'd mention it just in case people think I might've copied his composition. Just wanted to tell my side of the story before any finger pointing started! Heh heh.
Thanks, I'm glad you guys like it. The colors are kinda washed out though. The original is much more vibrant. I can't seem to tweak photoshop enough to get it close to the original. But ah well...close enough. Anyways, at one point or another I'll start doing new artwork instead of constantly posting old stuff. Just been so busy with work and stuff ... haven't had time to work on new stuff.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
